Making Big Society a Reality

London, 13 June 2011: Reflexion has come up with an innovative solution to support charitable organisations to become fitter, stronger and ready for the challenge of the Big Society agenda. Its founder and director Jenny Garrett is passionate about helping organisations achieve excellence in leadership and her strong commitment to give back to society can be seen through an innovative new programme.

In the wake of government spending cuts, charities have no option but to do more, with less. Organisations say that with the need to replace lost revenues from reduced donation income, decreasing reserve portfolios and head count cuts, there is too much on the agenda and all at the same time. For thousands of organisations breaking point looms.

There has been a lot of talk about the need for charities to increase collaboration and to innovate through partnerships. However the issues of resources, capacity and getting the know-how have not been resolved.

Jenny Garrett, founder and director of Reflexion Associates Ltd has designed an accredited training programme to support charities through coaching. Charities will benefit from the theory and practice of coaching, receive one-to-one coaching and will be tasked with thinking about how they could supportively challenge themselves to think differently through coaching.

“We have taken up the challenge to support the Big Society concept – it’s a reality that is hitting hard for many organisations in its first stages. We believe in acting now to empower individuals for future strength. We are really proud of this internationally-recognised accredited programme, we believe it will provide a creative and innovative space in which charities can collaborate and then cascade this approach through their organisations in order to create a real change and impact in performance for themselves and their colleagues” said Jenny Garrett.

Launching this month, Reflexion is committed to giving back and is offering a highly reduced subsidy to eight individuals who work within charities around the country. They will receive study for an Institute of Leadership and Management Coaching and Mentoring programme at Level 5. Normally offered at £2,000 + vat, the organisations will only have to contribute 25% towards the cost of the qualification. Participants will be asked to take part in a pre-programme discussion and feedback on the impact of the programme back in the charity six months after it has ended as part of Reflexion’s longitudinal impact study.

“Jenny is a great coach. She is calm and re-assuring and generates an atmosphere of trust. She is challenging without ever being judgmental, and was able to generate in me, a more reflective approach that in turn impacted positively on my leadership practice. In January 2011 I was successful in securing the role of Deputy Principal at Bury College!”

Working with Reflexion Associates Ltd has been an enlightening and refreshing experience. They have the uncanny ability to make everyone in a room feel relaxed, yet focused on the task at hand. They keep their sessions interesting and fresh, with different methods of encouraging discussion and learning used each time. I am naturally quite sceptical of personal development courses, but my time spent with Reflexion Associated Ltd has opened my eyes to the potential improvements they can facilitate. I would certainly recommend their services to individuals and teams alike.
